About Loveland - Colorado Hotels

From its origins as a small cluster of farms along the Big Thompson River, Loveland has grown into one of Colorado's most exciting cities, offering plenty of outdoor recreation opportunities, rich historic sites along with dining, shopping and evening entertainment activities. Loveland Colorado is known nation wide as the “Sweetheart city” and is located 45 miles north of Denver on the I-25 corridor. Loveland is named after William Austin Hamilton Loveland, a prominent early Coloradoan and the president of the Colorado Central Railroad.

Loveland is well known nationally as the center of bronze sculpture art. Many people call it the "Gateway to the Rockies" because just west of the city is the Big Thompson Canyon, which certainly qualifies as an entrance to the Rockies. This narrow canyon was formed by the Big Thompson River, which is one of Colorado's major water sheds.

If you’re visiting in warm weather, you can explore the famous Rocky Mountain National Park, visit a nearby lake, golf and more. If you’re coming here in winter, there’s snowshoeing and tons of indoor activities to choose from. Plus, there are hundreds of other must-see things to experience no matter what time of year you’re staying.

The Loveland area is an outdoor lover's paradise, offering up every type of outdoor recreational activity you can imagine, from whitewater rafting, hiking, mountain biking, fishing, cross-country skiing and so much more. Other worthy attractions include the Bee Family Centennial Farm Museum, the Farm at Lee Martinez Park (petting zoo) and the Avery House. For a botanical adventure, check out the Gardens on Spring Creek.
